Production Assistant

Happy Island is a small but growing Cape Town based company specialising in polymer clay jewellery, accessories and quirky gifting products in the retail space since 2018. Having successfully taken part in leading retail events including Kamers Makers and supplying leading retailers across South Africa,  we are now looking to expand our small team of makers to include a jewellery production assistant. 

This will be a contractor position on an ongoing basis. Compensation will consider the amount of experience and skill and will be discussed during the interview process.

Initially the role will be based from our small home studio in Lakeside, in the southern suburbs of Cape Town. It will then progress to become a work from home position for the right candidate with all materials and equipment being provided. 

Responsibilities

• Production of jewellery  to our already  existing designs
• Sculpting and working with polymer clay specific materials
• Labelling products with sales codes and price tags
• Working to batch orders within a specified time frame and meeting deadlines
• Attention to detail and quality control are of the utmost importance in this role
• Clear and transparent communication with the team regarding your project statuses

Experience

• Working with polymer clay or similar
• Confidence with Dremmel machine, sandpaper work, painting and other craft related mediums
• Manufacturing of jewellery whether in polymer clay, beading, wire work or other craft forms
• Experience in working with resin an advantage, but training will be provided
• Working to deadlines
• Working with basic Google docs and spreadsheets

Skills & Qualifications

• Minimum matric qualification
• Clay sculpture (preferably polymer clay)
• Arts / crafts / creative skills whether self taught or studied
• Fluent English both verbal and written
• Drivers license (own transport)
• Email and Google Docs proficient
